Theme

The 2026 symposium theme is “People and the Built Environment”, highlighting the central role of people in designing, building, regulating, managing, and living within the built environment. Submissions connecting governance, sustainability, infrastructure, housing, digital systems, or community outcomes are particularly welcomed.

NZBERS 2026 is the New Zealand Built Environment Research Symposium, focusing on people-centered research and practice in the built environment, held at Massey University, Wellington.

NZBERS 2026 provides a platform for construction and built environment professionals, researchers, and policymakers to share knowledge, showcase innovation, and connect research with real-world industry challenges. The symposium emphasizes bridging research, policy, and practice, fostering evidence-informed dialogue to create more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities. It encourages contributions from early-career researchers, postgraduate students, and industry practitioners, covering theoretical, empirical, practice-based, and policy-focused work.

PhD Confirmation Seminar

On behalf of the School of Built Environment - Massey University, we congratulate Muluken Tsehayneh Kelemu on successfully passing his PhD confirmation. Muluken's PhD research, "Unravelling Schedule Risks Through Interface Management of Interconnected Infrastructure Projects in New Zealand," is an excellent project for NZ infrastructure project management. His project is supervised by Professor James O. B. Rotimi, and I have the privilege of co-supervising his work. Thank you, Kelvin Zuo and An Le, for examining Muluken's work. Thank you, Claire Flemmer, for chairing the session. Many, congratulations, Muluken!
